Any local conflict now threatens to escalate into war - Russian General Staff

MOSCOW, December 7 - RIA Novosti. Any of the local conflicts that currently occur in different regions of the Earth, can develop into full-scale war, told reporters Wednesday Chief of Staff Armed Forces, Army General Nikolai Makarov.

"I do not deny that any conflict could escalate into full-scale war, and in general, if you take the current situation, we can understand that a great number of States engaged in a war," - he said.

Chief of General Staff said that at present local wars are in North Africa, the Middle East, Afghanistan and elsewhere, with "a huge number of conflicts have a tendency not to decrease, while the widening."

"If such a rate ... will, under certain circumstances, a number of states can be drawn into the conflict. This was and is a full-scale war," - he added.

According to Makarov, if the leadership of the state makes a decision on the conduct of hostilities, in the present circumstances such conflicts are completed very quickly, and then comes the post-conflict settlement, which takes months, years or even decades.

"And here the armed forces decided not peculiar to them of the problem. We envisage that our armed forces must solve the complex problems", - said the general.

According to him, many states in this regard carry out such tasks in the statutes of its armed forces. "It's done and we will," - said the head of the Russian General Staff.
